Everyone reads books for different reasons. Every once in a while, I just want to read a nice romance novel - no cheating, no backstabbing, no miscommunications/assumptions hidden as a real issue and/or continues to go on way too long throughout the book, no hidden past that threatens the relationship before it even starts, no angst (or at least not a lot), etc., etc. This is definitely that kind of novel!

I would define this as a sweet, sweet romance with a great HEA. It makes you feel good as you read through their story. I believe this is a debut from a new author and I would definitely read more!

Destiny Detour edition by Mari Brown Katie Mac Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I love romance novels, I love football players, and I love settings that are real. I didn't love this book. There was a lot of potential but I wasn't wrapped up in the story - there was way too much telling and not a lot of showing. The dialogue was immature surrounded by a lot of wordy paragraphs. When I read the authors bio and found out that she has been married for 18 years I was shocked - this story seemed to have been written by a teen. The way the characters spoke to each other and Destiny and Troy's relationship was very teen, not college-aged at all. I finished the story but was quickly skimming most up it by 62%. This is just my opinion so read it for yourself. I would to pay for it though.
I got a little better than half way through this book, but the gag reflex was getting too strong. So I thought....for my health, that it would be best to stop. The characters are wealthy, hot looking, and kind and considerate (it would not be out of character to see any of them slam on the brakes of their expensive cars and jump out to help a little old lady cross a busy street). They are beautiful college students living in a perfect, daddy-funded, nicely-furnished, large and clean oasis (not some run-down, cramped sewer-apartment that generally surrounds most campuses). With all the scrubbed-clean perfection, I was expecting the "detour" promised in the book's title. I kept turning each page anticipating space aliens, zombies, or vampires to wreak havoc on their sorry-butt perfect existence. But page after page the characters kept smiling their post-orthodontic perfect smiles while being understanding... caring... and faithfully loving. Don't tell me... I suppose if I had persisted in reading further I could have enjoyed the entrance of the serial killer who killed off each of the chiseled good looking, strong (but sensitive!) football players, causing Destiny to dash home and weep uncontrollably in the arms of her loving parents. I gave the book 3 stars, because I like novelists and admire the accomplishment of writing a book--even one I don't like.
What a sweet story, and that Troy sure is a passionate one, "after we entered my room, he shut the door. I just made out the sound of the door locking when I found myself thrown up against it and Troy's lips came crashing into mine." Destiny and Troy had so much chemistry and passion before they started dating it's no wonder they didn't explode
We turn to walk away and I'm not surprised when Troy yells, "Destiny, baby! I'll see you at home tonight." I stop in my tracks, look back, and shoot him a dirty look. He smirks at me. Jerk. He would say or do something stupid. He always does.
Leaning into him, I place my hand on his chest seductively. My hand slowly slides down to lightly brush his d*** as it pulsates, I say, "you know, baby, payback's a bit**."
Sometimes destiny is just too cute, "we have our first pep rally to perform. I am excited all of a sudden and start wiggling around in the bed. I would have probably kept moving if I hadn't heard a groan escape from Troy and his husky words. "Baby, careful, you are awakening the beast." That boy always has to turn something sweet into something dirty, "then he looks at me. Our eyes meet over our son's head, and as we hold each other's gaze, Troy grins. "He knows what to do with those boobs already." Way to eff up a good moment." I think I would enjoy David and Amy's story.
So this happened to be one of the many one clicks I have on my ( I may or may not have a twitchy finger) so I didn't really remember what it was going to be about when I started reading. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
It begins with Destiny starting college with her bff and they are going to the same school as her brother and his best friend who are two years older. They have all grown up together and are now living in the same house while they attend college. Destiny has always had a crush on her brothers best friend Troy. Troy and her brother both play football and Destiny and Amy her bff are on the Dance team together. So they spend a lot of time together. Something happens that makes Destiny see things in a new light.
This may sound like the typical girl falls for brothers best friend story, which I suppose it is but it is also so much more.
I enjoyed this because the story was told without out a lot of drama and angst. Don't get me wrong, I do like that in the books that I read but the way the story was written it wasn't needed nor did it take away from the book. Not to say that if they had been a little smarter they would have never been in the situation they found themselves in. But hey, I'm not judging, I've been there myself. Again, what made this different was just the way the story played out. It was truly beautiful. Now I know some may think that it's too unrealistic but sometimes it's nice to see that things can work out even when the unexpected happens. All of the characters in this book are great (well almost all). They are very loving and very supportive which is nice. I liked the writing, it fit the characters. Remember these people are in college. So if you are looking for a happy read this is it. I can't wait to read more from Mari Brown.
